1. Improvements for sidewalks must be submitted by application and approved by the Building Inspector's office before any work begins.
2. All sidewalks must be four (4) feet in width unless otherwise designated. All construction shall be with 4000psi concrete. The thickness of the sidewalks shall be a minimum of four (4) inches; across the driveway, they must be six (6) inches.
3. Blacktop sidewalks, even at driveways, are illegal and must be replaced, along with the sidewalk.
4. Sidewalk blocks shall be 4' x 4' where the sidewalk is four (4) wide and 5' x5' where there has been designated a five (5) foot wide sidewalk.
5. In addition to the block size above, expansion joint material generally approved by the Superintendent of Public Works (679-2304) shall be installed at the property lines and at 25-foot intervals. Expansion joints shall also be on both sides of the driveway.
6. All concrete surfaces shall recieve a broom finish. Trowel surfaces will not be allowed. All edge and joint corners shall be finished with an appropriate edging tool.
7. Sidewalk grades may not be altered from the existing without approval of the Superintendent of Public Works. Alteration will not be allowed after inspection by this office.Please contact the Superintendent of Public Works if you are planning changes.
8. All sidewalks shall be properly formed. There will be no pouring to "the hole".
9. Contractors are fully responsible for barricading all consturction areas to protect the public and are liable for any claims resulting from inadequate barricading.
10. Following installation and form removal, the contractor is responsible for filling voids left from excavation or form removal.
11. At intersections of the sidewalk with the street, the Village Street Department will be responsible for handicapped curb cuts and not the property owner.
12. If any tress that are in the Village right-of-way interfere with the construction of a sidewalk, you must contact the Street Superintendent at 679-2304 to make arrangements for inspection of trees.
13. All concrete done under this plan shall receive a seal coating.
14. When making up the bill, the costs that are to be reimbursed shall be itemized. A copy of the concrete slip shall accompany the bill.
15. An insurance certificate, as approved by the State of New York, must be on file in the Building Inspector's Office or must accompany each application.
